While Kansas hasn't elected a Democratic US Senator in more than 80 years, the state does sometimes elect Democratic Governors.

Estes heavily favored to retain Kansas 4th

In the Kansas 4th Congressional District, Laura Lombard (D) is running against incumbent Republican Ron Estes.

Ron Estes served as the Kansas State Treasurer before he became a member of Congress.

 

Lombard helped create an international business development organization in Washington, DC called MENA Consultants Assocation in 2012.

 

The Middle East & North Africa Consultants Association (MENA) educates the US business community about opportunities and business practices in the Middle East and North Africa.

 

The Association also helps businesses find experts who are knowledgeable about the region.

 

The Kansas 4th Congressional District includes Wichita.

 

Republicans generally win elections in the 4th Congressional District.

 

In 2010, Mike Pompeo (R) beat Raj Goyle (D) by 22%.

 

In 2012, Pompeo (R) beat Robert Tillman (D) by 31%.

 

In 2014, Pompeo (R) beat Perry Schuckman (D) by 33%.

 

In 2016, Pompeo (R) beat Daniel Giroux (D) by 31%.

 

In 2018, Ron Estes (R) beat James Thompson (D) by 19%. 

 

A Republican has won each of the past six elections in the Kansas 4th. The average margin is a Republican win by 28%.

 

FiveThirtyEight considers this year's race to be a Solid Republican victory. Their model predicts Estes (R) will win by a 22% margin.

Davids strongly favored to retain the Kansas 3rd

In the Kansas 3rd Congressional District, incumbent Democrat Sharice Davids is running against former Kansas Republican Party Chairwoman Amanda Adkins.

The Kansas 3rd Congressional District includes Kansas City, Kansas, and Overland Park. 

 

In 2014, Kevin Yoder (R) beat Kelly Kutala (D) by 20%. 

 

In 2016, Kevin Yoder (R) beat Jay Sidie (D) by 11%. 

 

In 2018, Sharice Davids (D) beat Kevin Yoder (R) by 10%.

 

Over the past six elections, a Republican has won the Kansas 3rd Congressional District 4 times and a Democrat has won 2 times.

But incumbent Democrat Sharice Davids is the clear favorite to win this year.

The Kansas 2nd: Occassionally Competitive

 

In the Kansas second congressional district, Topeka Mayor Michelle De La Isla (D) is running against Kansas State Treasurer Jake LaTurner (R).

 

The Kansas second congressional district is located in the eastern part of the state, and it includes Topeka and Lawrence. 

 

Nancy Boyda was the most recent Democrat to represent the 2nd district. She served in Congress in 2007 and 2008. 

 

In 2008, Lynn Jenkins (R) beat Nancy Boyda (D) in the general election by 4%.

The 2018 general election in the Kansas 2nd US Congressional District was close. Steve Watkins (R) beat Paul Davis (D) by 0.85%. Kelly Standley, a Libertarian candidate, received 5.6% in that race.

Deep Red: The Kansas Big First

 

In the Kansas First Congressional District, former school teacher Kali Barnett (D) is running against former Kansas Lt. Gov. Tracey Mann (R). 

 

Mann served as Lt. Gov. to Gov. Jeff Colyer after former Gov. Sam Brownback was confirmed to be the US Ambassador for Religious Freedom. Tracey Mann is a pro-Trump Republican.

 

The Kansas first congressional district is heavily Republican. The "Big First" Congressional District is largely rural, but it also includes Salina and Manhattan.

In 2014, Tim Huelskamp beat Alan LaPolice in the Republican primary by 9.9%.

 

Huelskamp (R) won the general election against James Sherow (D) by 36%.

Claeys beats Hardy in the Kansas 24th Senate District

 

Conservative Republican JR Claeys beat incumbent moderate Republican Randall Hardy in this year's primary for the 24th Kansas State Senate district. 

 

Claeys, who currently represents the 69th district in the Kansas House, defeated Hardy by 25%. 

 

Claeys is now running unopposed in the 2020 general election to represent the 24th Kansas Senate district.

The Kansas 69th House District: Republican Stronghold

 

In the 69th Kansas State House District, longtime KSAL Radio Host Clarke Sanders (R) is running against Salina Central High School Choir Teacher Ryan Holmquist (D).

 

The 69th Kansas House District is currently represented by J.R. Claeys (R), who defeated incumbent moderate Republican Randall Hardy in the primary for the 24th Kansas State Senate District.

 

Claey's state senate run opened up his current seat, which Clarke Sanders and Ryan Holmquist are vying for.

 

The 69th Kansas House district leans heavily republican. A Republican has won every election in the 69th district going back to at least 2004. 

 

A Republican won each of the 8 most-recent elections for the district, which are held every two years. 

 

In 2010, Tom Arpke (R) beat Gerrett Morris (D), in the 69th District by a margin of 28%. 

 

In 2012, JR Claeys (R) beat Gary Swartzendruber (D), by a margin of 8%. 

 

In 2014, Swartzendruber (D) ran against Claeys (R) in the 69th District again. That time, Claeys beat Swartendruber by 22%.

 

In 2016, Gerrett Morris (D) tried again to run for the 69th district. That election was close. Claeys (R) beat Morris (D) by 4% that year.

 

In 2018, Morris (D) ran against Claeys (R) for a second time. That time, Claeys won by a larger margin, 11%.

 

Over the past six elections, the Republican candidate has won the general election in the 69th district by an average of 14.3%. 

 

The district is located in Saline County, which votes 7.7% more Republican than Kansas as a whole.

 

The district's voting history makes Clarke Sanders significantly more likely to win the race than Ryan Holmquist.
