Bernie Moreno’s Political Liabilities

In Ohio, Sen. Sherrod Brown (D) is running for reelection against Republican challenger Bernie Moreno.

Brown was first elected to the US Senate in 2006.

Brown was reelected in 2018 by 6.8%.

Ohio has voted for Trump in the past two presidential elections.

Trump won Ohio in 2020 by 8.0%.

Trump won Ohio in 2016 by 8.1%.

You can see how Brown voted on key issues in the Senate in the table below.

You can click on the table to enlarge it.

I provided descriptions for these bills and votes in my article on Deb. Fischer’s Senate Record.

Moreno’s abortion remarks

Moreno, a former car dealership owner, has been endorsed by JD Vance and Donald Trump

During a town hall in September, Moreno expressed incredulity that women over 50 would care about abortion rights.

“You know, the left has a lot of single issue voters,” Moreno said.

“Sadly, by the way, there’s a lot of suburban women, a lot of suburban women that are like, ‘Listen, abortion is it. If I can’t have an abortion in this country whenever I want, I will vote for anybody else.’ ok. It’s a little crazy, by the way, but — especially for women that are like past 50, I’m thinking to myself, ‘I don’t think that’s an issue for you.’ ”

“Oh thank God my wife didn’t hear that one,” Moreno added.

Brown should also worry about how voters might respond to his remarks.

Last year, Ohio voters approved a state constitutional amendment that protects abortion rights by a margin of 14%.

Wage Theft

Moreno settled over a dozen wage theft lawsuits last year, according to the Guardian.

A Jury found Moreno liable for withholding overtime wages from two employees and shredding company documents relevant to the lawsuit while the case was ongoing, according to Mother Jones

In that case, Moreno was required to pay $416,000 in damages.

I predict Ohio voters will reelect Sherrod Brown by 2%, even though I believe Trump will win Ohio in the presidential race.
