Dodson reelected to Kansas Legislature

Incumbent Republican Mike Dodson has been reelected to the Kansas Legislature in District 67, which includes parts of Manhattan and Riley County.

Dodson previously served as Manhattan Mayor, Manhattan City Commissioner, and Chair of the Riley County Law Board, which oversees the Riley County Police Department.

Dodson (R) defeated challenger Kim Zito (D), a former journalist who previously served as chair of the Riley County Democratic Party.

Dodson received 53% of the vote, and Zito received 47%.

Dodson won the election by 434 votes, or 5%.

I profiled the State House race on Meticulous Musings, where I examined Dodson’s and Zito’s positions on Medicaid expansion, abortion rights, and transgender rights.

I endorsed and voted for Zito in the election.

This year’s race was closer than Dodson’s first election to the Kansas Legislature in 2020.

In 2020, Dodson defeated Democrat Cheryl Arthur by 959 votes, or 7%.

Dodson received 54% of the vote, and Arthur received 46%.
